Frequently asked questions
For technical readers: how does the filtering work?
Aspida Metras is a filter that runs on your device. It checks the domain names your apps and browser look up, and stops known malware and phishing before a connection is made. There is no account and no server of ours. Lookups for allowed sites are sent encrypted (DoH) to the DNS resolver you choose: Cloudflare, Quad9 or Google.
Is this a VPN service?
No. The app uses the system VPN interface only on your device, to filter DNS. There is no VPN server. It does not hide your IP address, change your country or unblock region-limited content.
Why does my device ask to add a VPN configuration?
The system needs your permission before an app can filter DNS this way. Allow it so protection can work. The app does not read or send the content of your connections.
What is free and what does Aspida Metras Pro include?
Free: malware and phishing blocking, encrypted DNS, a count of trackers seen, and Allow for sites blocked by mistake. Aspida Metras Pro adds tracker blocking, ad blocking (Apple devices only), the Safari content blocker, Focus Shield, weekly report, custom lists, pause, PIN and quick controls.
How do I buy Aspida Metras Pro?
Aspida Metras Pro is a monthly or yearly subscription (the yearly one starts with a 7-day free trial), or a one-time lifetime purchase. The price is shown in the App Store or Google Play in your currency. One subscription works on iPhone and iPad. Family Sharing is available on Apple devices.
How do I cancel a subscription?
In your App Store or Google Play account settings. Deleting the app does not cancel it. Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date.
How do I restore my purchase?
Open the Pro screen and choose “Restore purchases”. Use the same Apple Account or Google account.
Are trackers blocked for free?
No. The free version detects and counts trackers, but does not block them. Tracker blocking is part of Aspida Metras Pro.
What is the Safari content blocker?
A Pro feature for iPhone and iPad. It blocks ads and trackers inside Safari. It runs on your device and sees no browsing data.
Does it block all ads?
No. It blocks ad domains, but not ads served from the same domain as the content, such as ads inside some video or social apps. Ad blocking is for Apple devices only. It is not in the Google Play version.
A site I need is blocked. What can I do?
Open the activity log, choose the blocked domain and tap “Allow”. This is free for malware and phishing blocks. Allowed domains always win over block lists. You can also write to us with the domain name.
Which DNS resolver is used?
The one you choose in Settings: Cloudflare, Quad9 or Google. Lookups are sent encrypted. That resolver sees the domains you look up, under its own privacy policy.
What data do you collect?
None in the app. There is no account, no analytics and no ads. Statistics and logs stay on your device. See the Privacy Policy.
The internet does not work with protection on. What do I do?
Turn protection off and on again. Try another DNS resolver in Settings. If it continues, write to us with your device model and system version.
Where can I read the terms?
See the Terms of Use and the Privacy Policy.
